All weekend Brett has been on this quest of sorts to find turtles to domesticate for the new “Touch Tank” at the School / Camp he teaches at, in Plymouth. After an endless search today, while walking his dogs he happened upon 3 turtles in need of help. Apparently some dumb ass dumped Oil or Gas into the water at the High School, and of course as any person with a sense of anything knows that water travels…He found them at the Kennedy School, and scooped them up to clean them up and release the somewhere safe.
I can’t find any links in the local paper to reinforce this, but the pictures will surely do it! The Oil / Gas is so imbedded within their shell, it may never come out. Brett did what any animal lover would do and collected them and helped them out. Although at this point the only place left to keep animals is the bathroom…And for a worthy cause. These poor Painted Turtles are so badly ladened with Oil / Gas they need help. So they stay in the tub for the night and are released when they are well enough and cleaned up enough to do so. One of them is missing her hind right leg. so sad.
On the plus side we now know that even wild turtles support equality, they have rainbow colored shells! They were cleaned off and soaked in fresh water for the night and will be re released in the morning…Hopefully close by so We can keep a lookout for them…and be sure of their continued safety over the years.
